I’ve gone and installed @AsahiLinux on my M1 MacBook Pro. And it mostly works. Very impressive efforts, and nice to know one *could* break out of Apple’s box on these machines.
Will I actually *use* it? Or will it be just taking up space and going stale? Idk!
So far my main issues have been around external devices.
Keyboard and mouse fine if booted with them connected but finicky when hot-plugged. Struggled to change the keyboard layout from what I picked when installing, but can live with that 🤷♂️
No external (USB-C) external display support (known issue, as expected)
@patrick_h_lauke @sam @AsahiLinux everything works on my @frameworkcomputer
Before that, everything worked on 10 years of two consecutive Dell
@falken @patrick_h_lauke @AsahiLinux @frameworkcomputer totes. Kinda want a framework. Meanwhile Apple (along with all manufacturers) should open up and not be making things difficult. Because it’s my machine, not theirs, and I should be able to run anything I please on it.
