Interesting. I have never heard of a speech impediment that was physical and related to that sound. Only cases I've seen are people who dont have the sound in their native language. I know asian language speakers have a touch time with the S sound. I know Indian is technically considered asian though in my mind I dont really "see" them as asian as their language and culture seems to be a heavy departure from the countries I'm used to seeing as asian (japan, chinese, thai, korean mainly)... so my first thought was maybe the indian languages lacked an "s" sound in a similar way asian languages do.... sounds like that isnt the case though.
By the way if you dont mind sharing what part of india do you live? I have worked with many indians in the past and have had some limited exposure to their culture. Though I do absolutely love indian food.

Cool! Most of what I know of indian culture are a small handful of movies, which i used to be biased agaisnt until giving them a chance, their food, and a few of their holidays. Other than that just the personality and demeanor of Indians I have worked close with over the years. Oh and a bit of the history, but just the broad strokes.

I mostly find bollywood shitty (though can't say it's totally bad) I only like movies of Aamir Khan in Bollywood cause they have a deep purpose and story.
To speak about India, this place is too much diverse to come to any centre point. languages, cultures, food, traditions, beliefs, even landscape changes every 100Km.

I'm not sure I agree with that idea.. I think inequality, hatred, and other difficulties are inherent and would be there regardless. Diversity just tends to be the target of such negativity when it is present, but without diversity the same turmoil would exist people would just find different reasons.
@tombies@social.tchncs.de @stux
Yea I get that. I just think even if the diversity wasn't there the nastiness would be just as significant, people would just create different definitions of what is "different".
In fact I'd say the caste system is a great example of that. Everyone is indian and yet certain people, totally arbitrarily, are considered a lower caste and treated with all the same hate a minority would be. It is literally a completely fabricated and reason to hate someone (or at least judge them).
To me the caste system is a perfect example of why it doesnt take diversity for people to label someone as "other" and treat them as lesser.
