I would like to make an instance picker (à la joinmastodon.org) for the @matrix website.
What were the important parameters for you when picking an instance? Language? Terms & Conditions? Code of Conduct? Age of the instance? Patch level of the instance? Structure running the instance?
In other words: how did you decide who to trust (or not) with your identity?

I wanted an instance
- in #english
- with reasonable and #openMinded rule set
- #LGBTQ+ friendly (even if I am not, but most of my #friends are)
- that did not block other #instances, at most muted but open
- with open minded #admins
- with extended functionalities
- #STEM oriented
I ended up with #qoto, pretty happy about it!
Have also considered:
- #Japan, #Linux, #art, #3D, #vfx, #FOSS, #FLOSS, #blender oriented ones.
At #today, would also consider their aderation at the #UnitedFederationOfInstances ( #UFI )
I know for a fact that @freemo might want to participate in the #conversation @thibaultamartin @matrix

Hi, thanks. That makes me happy to hear as those are all things I aspire for in my instance (Well except the English part, we are multi-lingual).
The #UFoI is a very exciting development and I am really happy to see all the conversation and participation around that (and it hasn't even been a day!). I am really hopeful it will be a force of good in the fediverse and help add some sanity and a counter-force to the fracturing we are currently seeing.
