@thor STL, OBJ.. its been a while since i had to share a 3D mesh but I recall there being quite a few platform independent formats.
@freemo you wanna share full projects without needing to convert. usually these formats only work for importing or exporting and data beyond the most basic things tends to get fucked up or lost.
@thor that sounds fair.
@freemo i mean, i really wish we had some standard formats in these industries, but it hasn't happened. everyone has their own editing formats and a studio or design house will standardise on a particular software suite. and sometimes, an entire domestic industry has one standard software that they use. i talked to a movie production company here in Norway recently who said i shouldn't use Final Cut Pro because everyone in Norway uses Adobe Premiere. our industry's apparently a bit strange there, because elsewhere, you see more FCP and DaVinci Resolve.
@freemo if you want a job in the 3D animation industry, you're probably better off learning Maya than Blender, even though Blender is perfectly capable.
@thor No arguments there... anything wrt media generation is going to be a mac thing in most industries.
@thor I do pretty extensive EE.. and while your right there is some windows only software, no one ever uses it outside of maybe tight nit company teams... Kicad or Eagle are pretty much the standard go-to in the industry and both are free (though only kicad is truely OSS and unrestricted). Both run on linux though.
