Im not sure if following your own beleifs rather than following the central government is more democratic or less....

Sure.. but the federal govt, when run honestly, should represent the majority of the country.... So if you disobey it you disobey the 51%+, which is antidemocratic...
But then id argue against myself and say democracy isnt about appeasing the 51% and fucking over the 49%... democracy is about making everyone happy enough their willing to keep chugging along without shooting eachother... to do that you need to do more than appease just the majority.
