I knew before today, that in theory, insurance only exists to take my money, not to actually insure things.
But last year there was a hurricane, and I figured that was special enough circumstances to warrant making a claim.
Boy, was I mistaken. I have learned my lesson. Insurance companies in Florida are the mob, and if you try to get even a dollar out of them, they will not hesitate to break your legs.

@LouisIngenthron Thats fucked up... if you are penalized for making claims, kinda defeats the purpose... were you at fault (according to you not them)?
@freemo It was a little more complicated than that, but the claim was the start of a pretext to drop me.
The damage itself was from a hurricane, so no, I don't think that's my fault.
@LouisIngenthron Then yea, unless its like you hit something and it legitimately showed you were irresponsible, that seems like an abuse to me .
@freemo Just losing the claim would have been paradise.
Instead, they let me easily "win" the claim and paid out quickly (the tiny amount left over my deductible anyway)... only to use it as a pretext to drop me as a client six months later.
Now I'm going to have to scramble to find new insurance or my mortgage will fold. And finding insurance 3 years ago was hard enough before our GOP trifecta government let the issue stagnate to the point of falling apart. Property insurance is like the #1 issue for Floridians for the past few years, but all our government cares about is trying to punish companies for being too woke. I was hoping that my insurance going up by a thousand dollars each year would be the worst of that, but apparently it isn't.
