If #COVID variants just evolved, that would be fine.
The problem is that at some point, I would say since the appearance of #omicron, the evolution of #SARSCoV2 has accelerated dangerously.
Dangerous in the sense that a highly pathogenic and still highly transmissible variant is likely to emerge during this pandemic. In this case, a variant only has to remain calm for a few days before transmission and then doing damages.
This can happen very, very quickly.
How would that be possible?
By hacking the immune system. Especially in a context where variant do not compete (we are not here yet).

Hi, COVID-19 research scientist here.

There has been no significant evidence to suggest the evolution of the virus has accelerated post omicron.

There is still danger around the virus as there was since day one as a virus that can kill. But no there hasnt been some leap in evolution beyond what we already know and expect for this virus.

@freemo @olireiv

Hi. Could you provide further details?
We have significant higher infection numbers since omicron arrived. So why shouldn’t that fuel the evolution of the virus?

And please don’t link some PCR test statistics now 🙃 Wastewster testing compared to the delta wave please in case you wanna argue about „more infections“ or not.
