The people who exploit Amish life as a tourist attraction have a target market: Christian Nationalists.
The Amish are deeply committed to pacifism: many went to jail as conscientious objectors to America’s wars -- and they won’t even sing the National Anthem.
But Amish Country souvenirs are covered in the Stars and Stripes, and include many tchotchkes featuring extreme gun rights slogans.
And the trend is accelerating.

Wait, what amish country is that? I grew up near the largest and oldest amish communities in the USA (lancaster) and ive never seen Amish souvenirs like this. They have usually been things like quilts and furniture, or other small hand made items.
Thats interesting, and odd... .Are they claiming the amish make it or something?
Lancaster, at least when i was there which has been a while, never had anything like this. Very authentic, great place to visit, meet some amish, and support them.
@freemo @dconklin The article, should you choose to read it, goes into detail. It is about Ohio Amish country.
