When men want glamour they write about mercenaries. They write about efficient killers— oh but also they have feelings and maybe trauma—- or not. I hardly even notice it when I’m reading a book. Until I realize the protagonist is some kind of ethically tortured mercenary again and then I have to put down the book and pick my eyeballs off the floor having rolled so hard they popped out again.

I just don’t get it.

Give me an inventor. A scientist who is discovering too much. Give me a researcher on the cusp of a breakthrough. Give me a cynic who is having their cynicism destroyed. Give me a teenager who feels like the whole world is against them. Give me ants doing anything.

@futurebird thought this was a top level post for a while... I thought to myself "Why is this normally well spoken woman talking so strangely?" Now I've read the context, sounds normal, but lol that was a weird moment for my brain.

@freemo @futurebird I wish I had any idea why some replies show up like top level posts and some don’t. Will this post show up in the feeds of my followers? I have no idea?
