Mastodon audio intro for beginners without account (from scratch)....
For getting people onboard sometimes takes 10 soft attempt or 1 hard sitdown!
Don't forget logic is not a human speciality (i.e. what others do is not always logical as 'telling them' !)
Usually some reason is needed on the other side, like your friend is there or some more morally comfortable credit is given... or you got kicked off Twitter / Instagram and now you hate them lol... Twitter, FB, Instagram, all similar so makes sense when time comes or 'just to try it' before time comes and new friends!
I have encountered the following things which gives you a hints why less-able users are more protective of new things and sometimes there are solid reasons, if not just being scared as the main things!
- certificate warnings come up in their browser
- middle pages questioning user and half- stopping access and expecting them to add exceptions in browser or ask if it's it's trusted without knowing themselves WFT it is (browser based issues / browser politics)
- less knowledge and less secure users don't want to fudge things so generally being protective (remember they know 1% of what you know) this means any error and it's disconnect or back to what works means
- comps are used totally differently and some people don't want to 'break' it ^_^ (and it's true we can endless catch the bug of messing with things!)
- more logical reasons but again just time and more links in alternative ways helps people dare to get there and click to dare to visit' !
- with a friend screen sharing has worked best for me for more account creating type stuff... even using #Mastodon do a screen share guide people through it like your grandma and email back in the day!
I had experience where software engineer (but could be anyone) was not sure at all for trying Mastodon even though he's on 100 other places and doesn't even like social. But on first day got lots of responses which validated Mastodon and my confidence in others to respond.
Showing him (and others) like this is about sharing confidence and yes also some settings needed to be set at start because Mastodon instantly means you get flooded with msgs/feeds and feel very overwhelmed!... languages for example need deselecting and that relieves things!!!)
All this encourages less rage-quits or less demotivation even from my personal experience on first using Mastodon I was like wait WTF stop these messages looking for BIG STOP BUTTON LOL like a newb. A good taste of what it feels to be like grandma or even someone not sure.
For audio example of this literally being solves, a short audio walk-through of this is see here to demonstrate my point.. it's 17mins casual which I think how new users would like it.
