Yes, and I think that if we are able to retain decent levels of interoperability, improve and extend on the open standards and manage to integrate different application types / business domains with increasing ease, we come to a place where the ecosystem *as a whole* starts to create network effects and stand up to multiple walled gardens in unique new ways.
But we are trending the opposite way by too much app-by-app ad-hoc interop.
Not sure in what way you meant by "economic" but yes in general maybe to rope things of that nature IF at the same time we can literally convert culture itself (what it uses and is aware of) as well as allowing people certain access or way of doing things on the economic front (i,e. Facebook pays in some sense for you to use it, and that could be same as 'us' or on the side of Fedi thought more about social more discoverable things or ways to stay alive! I dare not say money or even Bitcoin but something to tie in things without hanging itself so quickly either).
Treacherous grounds perhaps...
Maybe explore more what you meant by " economic networks " bhaugen, here or via DM, as it's appealing though one hand is slapping the other right now for even writing something agreeing with economics!! But eventually yes in many forms of the word and doing things together...

Anyway, provisioning does not necessarily require money, altho in capitalism, it does.

LandLords and Economy...

I totally think the same about economy in the sense about managing the household (which turns out to be right now LandLords managing us and their household !) but more of a united and more humble planet care-taking... (or just less-taking!)
One could see it humanly too (if only) then we could get down to real 'business' of life (which I think is chasing happiness and respect for in our differences while giving in to our giving nature) but yes mainly the managing the planet life-giving things stuff with happiness in work
... all without mentioning things like love or giving meaning to what we do and because growing loving and meaning seems to rub people up the wrong way in it's 'other' meanings...)
Managing freedom better sound good.

The first thing I always need to explain about what I mean by "economic" is: I do NOT mean money.
I mean some combo of the original Greek meaning which was about managing the household, and the institutional-economists meaning, provisioning human and ecological needs.
The Wikipedia article has been improved lately and is not bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economics
