I don't know why, but of all the fediverse options I've tried to be involved with, peertube has been the toughest. I have little luck ever finding videos I want to watch, the one instance I signed up to last year cannot seem to access or interact with any other instances, and when I search new instances that focus on "music," "art", "Creativity," etc, I click the link and inevitably, all I see are either political videos, or "radiocasts" (which is the bane of twitch "music streaming"). #wutdo?

Seconded, @daggerhartrocks, without boosts/repeats/reposts videos don’t propagate very well. You would want to gradually discover works you enjoy over time instead, and subscribe to them from an activity pub account you are more active on. Without a bias it is also not possible to give you good search results, simply because most of us (your truly included) don’t produce high quality works.

On the other hand, it’s pretty cool on the uploader side, since one does not have to rely on proprietary software to do it and can choose the service with most suitable terms. For hosters, web torrent can help in case a video somehow got really popular. In other words, I believe that PeerTube is targeting the common case of people sharing their mediocre videos with each other, efficiently and ethically (i.e. promoting oligopoly for neither publisher nor author).

My biggest issue is that, so far, I haven't even found successful ways to discover ... "peertubers" (is that a word? it should be) that I like - all the search functionality that I've used on any peertube instance very rarely actually provides answers to the search questions I've asked!

I guess at the end of the day, I wish someone would do all the work of indexing and categorizing all the great peertube instances and creators, and give me an easy way to search for them. LOL

@daggerhartrocks, if suggestion by @abid below doesn’t work well enough for you, you can ask people for recommendation just like the good ole days. Some of the artists I subscribe to are @liveitlive, @morevna, @art.sommerwolke.com@tube.tchncs.de, @blender_reels and maybe @unfastudio (he doesn’t upload most of his videos to PeerTube :jelcry:).

So one of the issues I mentioned in my OP is how peertube is a bit more obtuse in the socialization department. Like, I have logged back into one of my peertube accounts - now, how (if possible) do I follow (or interact with) other instances so I can keep up to date in instances that are interesting to me?

Mastodon's magic box (top left of desktop) interface solves most of the answers to "how to follow or how to comment on videos" from Mastodon to different compatible platforms:

Answer / hint / general rule if not sure is:
JUST PASTE ANY PEERTUBE CHANNEL LINK OR USER URL in the TOP LEFT MASTODON BOX !

any video / channel = url / user link etc.... and see what happens.

Many urls just work like magic... to show the options you need.
From this you can reply to videos / add comments! / follow channel or user/author)

Just try pasting everything into the mastodon box - that box is near universal !

Boom! Boost!
