Guess a long trench could be good and then industrial plastic lining to keep it fairly watertight (even strongest stuff might get holes from plants though) - but I like the artificial stream idea (would be waste of ground but something thinner or even mini-river ! hmm kinda achieves and could manage that quite easily... even make a small dam etc! Could be a bucket width and bucket deep...
Yeah also bucket under existing streams / roofing work really well (need bucket under but yeah!).
But a discrete mini-river...
