If a system is not towards feeding people AND feeding people's mind* then one has to ask what is the direction or use of this system, short-term or long-term.

feeding people's mind* = what they think, consent, growing culture / ethics etc

MORE BELOW... but consider above first for yourself as it's just my view and above is your view first....

I guess I need help in seeing why growing everything based on finance and profit is actually not just the opposite of feeding people or just getting highest price as possible as the game... treating things as just another unit in the system rather than sharing/contributing/participating in humanity even if it's +/- in many ways natural since nature is mostly not like that at all though we can interpret it that way.
Nature is mostly in it's own system where we should respect it more than people that have taken over using un-fungible numbers

... We are the one's incorrectly pricing things and assuming perfection in numbers / money that can't really be relied upon.

Perhaps the 1st paragraph is the main point for you to think about and the rest just a tangent on what I think is undeniable.

@freeschool

This assumes agency for most people. That is not true.

@freeschool

Commerce took over because we enabled mass rule, but most people respond only to the simplest incentives, so we got the lowest common denominator: free stuff from government parasitizing markets, forcing companies to come up with higher margin items to compensate.

Yeah don't disagree.
Perhaps are getting a bit wiser now (ok not much or not in practise) but importantly (maybe even fortunately) they are actually getting burnt on the bell curve down... house repossessions / remortgaging / land-grabs again in different ways / constant 'we promise' this and that forever and extending things.. . just show "You have fuck all power, you're doing to have to take it from us, we're not giving you shit"
It's better in some sense as the easy way is getting *maybe* less trusted now like banks giving free money not actually getting you anywhere and just roping more people in... so more and more are suspicious... and actually people *maybe* realise they don't want free or see the exchanges and want to be left alone and eventually see "no way! these guys are real bastards they don't even stop there!... Right kids grab all your stuff we going to war for the rest of our lives! They left us little choice... "

'Easy ways' allow designer to mess things up by showing it's 'easy' but really using a matrix of calculations (and passive-aggressive force or laws usually) which end up cutting out things deliberately, displacing and devaluing things to achieve an 'easy way', because that's the aim to fall into the process.
I feel technology itself is like that as many methods follow this easy representation of what is hard or what people just have to do themselves eventually like it or not (and once did kind of at a slow pace but now have better methods an education they could lean on if they don't go for the best most expensive tools which skip that)

Deliberately left out of equations usually means populations of people themselves are left out, their consent, their feelings, how much confidence they have or not or if they comply / understand / stand under etc.
And of course it's possible to do all this 'asking people everything' way as we have achieved far more technical things (once paid for from top-down with will-power from people (or ignorant incentive) to achieve it... which I grant isn't they on many level not just top!)

Overall it shows for me: what is paid for is what is deliberately wanted when every little thing is calculated and measured (hardly anything isn't).
Anything new also comes under this microscope and some are digging well for other for it to become another matrix / made legal / into legal enterprise / another business (another matrix) not to feed people, educate, nothing like that towards needing 'less government' or the more limited nature basis economics.

@freeschool

I agree. Our modern system is a compilation of cut corners.
