#GitLab is planning to get rid of repositories from accounts in the free tier that haven't had activity in at least 12 months. This will mean that lots of these git repositories will be gone forever.
Just like @conservancy said to #GiveUpGitHub, it's time to #GiveUpGitLab as well.
I recommend switching to @codeberg, an instance of @gitea.

As a modern update, #GitLab has quickly backtracked a few hours after the initial announcement, and they wouldn't be deleting inactive projects (for now). It's still a good idea to keep backups, and you can always git clone the repositories you like in case they go away.

I didn't make an update because my original post was lost to a rollback on my instance, and I thought it would be gone forever, but after finding out it's still archived on other instances, I had to make this update.
