"Rant: File Sharing on #Linux is A Mess" #Samba 🐧

I had to share this video from @thelinuxcast because I agree. Linux does so many things better than Windows, but simple file-sharing on a network is not one of them.

Filesharing in Linux systems is easier than in Windows systems. Filesharing WITH Windows is the problem.

I use fish in dolphin (SSH). Easy, secure.

Maybe it's me, but I *always* struggle getting two Ubuntu systems to talk via GUI. Or Ubuntu and Windows.

Maybe it's just an Ubuntu thing? But it just never works until I start digging into Samba and doing everything manually from a config file.

I use dolphin, don't know other file managers. Most easy way to connect two systems is write fish://IP other machine, i.ex. fish://192.168.0.14 (I always have sshd port open to regular users). You can use machine names (this works better in samba shares, you can chose in the connected machine names, I don't know how to do that using ssh), you can use multiple users, you can drag the direction to "places" to shortcut...

I love dolphin too. Nice 2 pane layout.

You can also use sftp://computername to connect . I don't know if fish uses ssh keys for authentication. I assume it does. Drag the little folder icon to your favourites and you can just click on it saving time next time you connect.

It's so flexible. #kde #dolpin #gnu #linux #fsf

Some links would be good to Dolphin. Am offline / have little time mostly so reason for asking...

I wrote this in Spanish es.opensuse.org/SDB:Maneja_tus but they have good documentation and other sources (i.e. to sftp connection) with singles searches.
