Maybe I need a little guidance. I've been trying out the Samsung Z Flip 5 for the last few months, after 15 years on iPhone (other than a few curious toe-wettings in Android).

I love the hardware. I do not understand the software. In particular, the interfaces (if I can call it that) around settings, privacy, and app dates are impenetrable and a little scary.

I do not want voice assistance.

... more

I do not want location enabled for anything but maps and ride sharing.

I do not want ad tracking in apps (not that I use apps on the phone much anyway).

And what on earth is Android System Intelligence, which just yelled at me today because I tried to turn off location services.

Any tips? I don't want to give up this hardware but I feel I am not in control of this thing.

Thanks.

Yours, grumpy old man.

@robpike Yes it's getting like that, and encroaching... Something 10years back might be better as it can literally do a lot and has less of this 'built-in design' which I feel is immovable hardware now which was financed from when we were ok with buying previous more-innocent stuff (but less and less now). Earlier Samsung S models for example... rather than needing to basically switch it all off.. as even that they would expect and it is your time again to do all that for what is little gain (the camera's etc were still good back then and always 'new' is the hook)
