Terrible idea time!
So... if somebody made a cartridge that turns a dot matrix printer into a scanner, could other cartridge types be made for other things that could make use of the two-dimensional movements the printer mechanism provides?
Like, would it be possible to turn an ImageWriter into a plotter? If you made a cartridge that would move a pen to and from the paper and made a driver that would move the cartridge and roll the platen appropriately?

@billgoats I once thought that creating a sensor that's shaped like a 35mm roll of film would be a great way of turning film cameras into digital ones.
@billgoats I've seen the backs for medium format cameras :) I just wanted something for cheap 35mm ones. :D

@gpowerf you can get digital and analogue backs for some high end cameras, so that does definitely work!
