I'll be honest I didn't follow this submarine thing very closely because I didn't care but I had just assumed everyone was using the phase "Oceangate" like we say Watergate or nipplegate or gamergate because it was a scandal that took place in the ocean. The fact that the company is actually called this is hysterical.
@rodhilton a gate into the ocean, exploration tourism. Makes sense. It never clicked in my head that it could be interpreted that way.
