UK folk - what are you having lined up that’s viable (as in easy to use for the general masses) if the demented “Online Safety Bill” gets the current big name e2ee messaging apps to exit the UK market?

@wiredfire I don't think it will happen, the bill is unclear, vague, overreaching and incoherent. It is yet another case of politicians having no clue.

As for my backup plan, I have my passport.

@gpowerf I get angry each time any government entity tries to regulate tech. Most of the time they don't understand it, and worse often they fear it. You cannot effectively regulate what you don't even want to understand.

The EU is often guilty of the same, though I appreciate their intentions are usually better but the botch the implementation damn near every time.

@wiredfire Usually intentions are good, even with the UK government. But they start with let's protect kids, or let's protect privacy and the tools they choose are a bazooka, a bulldozer, and a pair of knuckle dusters.

It's almost like they ask "What would Rambo do?"

@gpowerf I doubt the current uk government have good intentions, they’re using “think of the children!!” as a route a creep in surveillance for people with views contrary to their own. It as hop and a skip to collaring folk under trumped up anti-state charges for voicing views that are unfavourable to the ruling party.

They don’t give a 💩 about kids. It’s a rouse. Not even a very good one.
