always thought LNS was Linked Numbering Scheme, in most cases routing calls to multiple TXE2/4/4A, and UAX by changing the dial plan in smaller towns/villages to 6 digits from 3/4 digits and using the first few levels (usually first two digits of subscriber number) to select which exchange a call routed to, although I also remember the codes starting with 9 for calling adjacent charge areas..

My error, yes, linked.
Hereabouts (NI), adjacent exchanges were accessed by level 9 codes.
I recall that would’ve been driven by limitations imposed by Strowger’s ‘physical’, step-by-step, routing.
I’ve forgotten so much!
