We have been working with @fulcrumgenomics to create an R package for D4 that mimics the functionality of the Python API (https://github.com/38/d4-format/blob/master/pyd4/examples/D4%20Tutorial%20in%20Python.ipynb). It provides an interface to connect D4 with GenomicRanges. Please let me know if you'd be interested in testing the package!
