I don't really understand people's obsession with podcasts. Their information density is typically so low! It's a slow, often boring, and ad filled way to get information. Reading is far faster and audiobooks more interesting, entertaining, and information dense.

Is their popularity just because people spend so much time commuting and want something to listen to that is more engaging than music but doesn't demand so much from them that they miss their turn or stop or whatever?
