As regularly as people in America suffer mass shootings, I will insist: Contrary to the views of Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, gun manufacturers, gun sellers, and groups that front for the gun industry, nothing in the Second Amendment overrides the basic purpose of government - to ensure public welfare. We are not constitutionally required to tolerate semi-automatic guns nor the sale of weapons of war into the civilian market.
