"Yes, Donald Trump’s Putin comments were unhinged – but he’s right to question Nato’s future"
One should continually question the future of everything. Failure to do so means that you've stopped thinking and planning.
Still, I challenge you to come up with even one thing of value in this offering from Simon Jenkins, aka Phil Space. To me, it is entirely vacuous: an op-ed dashed off under the duvet before breakfast on copy deadline day.
Sir Simon strikes again.
@joesticker Evry fule no this, but change in NATO is more likely to come about via the warnings of frontline European states than the rantings of a Florida shitgibbon.
@hesgen Well I’m not so sure about that. European security policy has been a disaster for I don’t know how long. So they deserve a real kick in the but
@joesticker We are beginning to do that to each other, and not before time.
"It is hard to believe Putin would try to topple more governments across eastern Europe. But he might well disrupt borders and stir Russian minority discontent in frontline states. Georgia 2008 or Ukraine 2014 are more likely precedents than Ukraine 2022."
Tell that to the Baltic states or Poland who Putin blamed for "making" Hitler invade it to start WW II during his 2 hr
soliloquy with Tucker.
It is profoundly reckless to assume Putin's aspirations are not what he has stated.
@joeinwynnewood Quite. See the latest warning from Estonia, published today by Reuters.
@hesgen This piece is dire, its sole saving grace being that it's brief.
I don't know how the industry works but this very much felt like doing the bare minimum to meet a quota, and I'm not sure how or why an editor would choose to publish it. There's not a single original thought or meritorious piece of insight in there — and it strays very close to acceptance and distribution of Russian propaganda.
@rhys Be thankful that the croissants were calling.
Ukraine is as much a part of Europe as France and Germany. Putin's ongoing war of conquest there, and assessments that he will launch military action against NATO member in 3-5 years to test Article 5, demand that NATO be strengthened.
Those who insist Europe and the US no longer face a common threat to their mutual security that must be deterred, and countered if necessary, are dangerous fools, perhaps intentionally.
@hesgen he is quite right https://www.statista.com/chart/amp/14636/defense-expenditures-of-nato-countries/
