Right now a ton of new users are joining and getting accounts on servers that are mostly run by volunteers who neede support. I put the admin of my server in my Patreon account for a monthly donation of the princely sum of $1 US. Yeah, not a huge amount, but is there anyone using Mastodon who could not come up with $1 a month to keep it going? No one is monetizing you to advertising on Mastodon, so it is up to you to keep it alive. And if everyone paid a buck a month, we would do it and have happy admins. And you don't want unhappy admins.
