I'm seeing a renewed wave of complaints that #UIdesign is not creative anymore, boring, generic.

But how much of that is due to an actual lack of creativity, and how much comes from #a11y work eliminating interaction designs that are visually, cognitively, or physically inaccessible? What if instead what we are seeing is *standardization* of "this is how one interacts with digital content" in the same way that we standardized the steering wheel, keyboard, etc?

Decades ago, when somebody asked for a button, you only had to ask for text and purpose. There were no sliders, tabs, switches... Nowadays you need that, and at least a photo of the suspect in multiple states, and in a variety of sizes.

Yes, the number of different things you can do with such quality is very limited. But we're playing in a totally different league. And that's good.
