I left #somervillema for Wisconsin this past June, as I was unable to find an affordable apartment and an old friend invited me out for the summer to see if relocating back to my home town made sense (It didn't). I knew when I left to the #midwest #masks were gonna disappear, but what I wasn't ready for was their complete absence in the #boston area on my return in August. I didn't live through the "gradual" phase out, I left, I came back, and suddenly we apparently stopped caring about the #pandemic. Stopped caring about our neighbors. I've been working as a #barista for the past few months, and I'm the only one I've seen masking up, both as a #serviceindustry worker and a customer. Maybe if I hadn't left I'd have stopped masking up too, but I'm very uncomfortable in this new "new normal," and am deeply concerned for what this winter is going to look like.
