>Bitcoin emissions alone could push global warming above 2°C

Now that is some bold take.

PS. Journals are ridiculously expensive. I wonder what part of it goes to the authors.

basically nothing, why do you think they like sci-hub :blobcat3c:
@GNUxeava uni pays for profs to do science. then sacks the science men with having to beg for money for the uni. then science men do a science :blobcatscience: which they are then due to political moronics are expected to sell their science to the journal who stamps a price tag on it and sells it back to academia at a markup.

it's literally a scam.

Sounds like a private-funded university... I never went to one and don't plan to. It's main gain is status rather than intellectual.

@lucifargundam
Yeah i went to a private university for staus not to learn

Still paying for it. Didnt learn much while i was there too.

With the advent of things like and companies slowly introducing employing people based on skill instead of merit, I hope the future will be more pleasant in such regards. I could be mistaken given my preferences, but I hope my judgement is adequately aligned.

@icedquinn @GNUxeava @dielan
Merit can be earned through efforts towards goal that is not applicable to skill.

An example is someone who is *supposedly* active in a community but doesn't actually put associated development skill into it. (eg. Posting, reposting, shitposting{arguably}, brief non-detailed replies, etc).

In terms of projects like the linux kernel, merit is actually in often seen as code-related contribution.

To me, you earn my respect- I don't know who are and don't care otherwise. Neither of of us should be anything to either unless some figment-like fragment of dust-like spec of a reason occurs.

Tldr; merit vs effort is context-sensitive in this case, but overall I believe efforts/labor should be scaled accordingly.

@lucifargundam
Yeah time will tell. I was already gainfully employeed when I went for my degree. So far all it has done for me was make my last two promotions an easy sell to execs who've never met me that have to sign the paper.

Congrats! I had to fight for mine but I tripled my income in the span of 4 years! Which isn't saying much considering how much I started....
