can a federation or hivemind be a legal entity? I thought that was reserved for corporate monopolies controlling nations. I don't think the fediverse is ready for that responsibility.

Ah, its depicting "Mastodon gGmbH" and not assuming Mastodon as a whole. Big difference to me and I feel better about it.
