so this is my first toot from #sxmo in #pinephone. still long way to go to completely configure all the apps. using a cli client for mastodon called toot. I might list all the pbms I have been facing in a different toot.

@raavan
toot is really hard to use- and it's broken in many ways. Congrats on the transition and good luck on moving foward! To me, goig to has been much like the transition from widows to linux itself. It may first seem like there's a lot of sacrifices- but there's a lot of potential to be had and its a growing community that just keeps making everything better!

If there will ever be a "year of the linux desktop", then there now stands to reason that there will be a "year of the linux phone".

@lucifargundam thank you. This is my first step towards Linux phone and I chose sxmo as my first distro. Many may think that as a bad idea. Let's see how it rolls out. I think we would see Year of Linux Phone soon.

@raavan
My came with but i instead installed . Either way, with Linux you'll face some 'challenges' compared to the ease of use of Android. But I urge you and others like you to stick with it.

If the kernel is good enough for the ISS(international space station), it's good enough for your $150 phone.

@lucifargundam I bought the beta edition the day it was on sale. It was having manjaro I think. Tried diff distros and then decided on sxmo. I have been moving away from android for a while. I only have few work related stuffs on android and have to use that. I hope within next few years I can reduce that to almost nil.

@raavan
in this regard- i still have my old android available for internet-only access stuff like banking apps.

for work stuffs- ive only had to deal with sms which works fine on at least on which has been my primary.

mobile webpages work on , but are a bit more of a pain compared to android apps- hmm, maybe I guess they should pay certain developers more for better quality web designs????

@lucifargundam my works requires WhatsApp. That's the biggest PBM for me in migrating completely. And also many of my friends and families are in WhatsApp. I have hard time moving them to any other :ablobcatcry:

@raavan
All of my family use facebook- I dont use facebook or google services for anything. It took several years for them to accept that. Only recently are they open to alternatives that I've proposed to them to do things like videochat.

As for corporate sector- all you can do is comply with the current and push for the proposed open-source in-house alternatives.

Ideally, those who follow would only ever follow strict principles- but the truth is that change is not radical, but inherit and slowly learning. I would personally encourage pushing on the premice that it's better for the company, meanwhile staying in contact with those who stay proprietary for the sake of the long-run game(so to speak).

Even at my megacorp- they occasioally dabble in . Dealing with proprietary software has been a matter of convenience. I deal with it only because it pays the bills- which dribble onto funding .

@lucifargundam its a good thing u r already finished the transition. It might take a while for me. I don't use Facebook insta anymore. My last update in FB was in 2019. I haven't closed it yet, cuz there is two work pages that I manage which I'm trying to find way to move away from so I can just delete my profile :ablobcathappypaws: hopefully will be done soon. Have tried to bring my friends and family towards matrix instead of WhatsApp and have successfully made few of them to transfer
