Meanwhile- many businesses in the US are facing a shortage of staff as people stop working altogether.
Rumors are that legislation will soon pass that unless people prove they were actively job hunting, they'll have to pay back unemployment via tax returns.
@zleap @icedquinn
I've heard many reasons- I'm not sure on a single generalisation.
The formerly unemployed I know if personally are taking advantage of the openings being made.
I wouldn't be surprised if immigrants, refugees and other desperate people started picking up where other people left off.
>> They took my job!
<< MF, you left and I had a small business to run- they deserve it.
That is understandable if people locally won't fill the roles you have to look elsewhere at people who will fill those roles / positions.
@zleap @lucifargundam explanations I've seen include early retirement, women being stuck with childcare due to childcare centers being closed or too expensive and schools randomly sending kids into quarantine, people in customer facing jobs not wanting to deal with customers any more, and a significant decline in immigration starting in 2016. Also I think long covid is pretty common (potentially millions of people) and can be very debilitating

Why are people stopping working.?
