@freemo Actual question i as a non-american have:
On a scale of "law prohibits it" to "people just don't vote that way", how impossible is "Can i has third party?" in the land of 1.5 party democracy?
It's possible, but unlikely due to herd mentality.
When the day comes that politicians stop playing highschool quad social drama games, we might actually have more diversity.
Currently, if you're a serious politician- you need to pick 'a side' to play dodgeball on. Otherwise you won't get far in your political career. That's why it becomes a big deal when a high ranking politician changes 'sides' or even goes 'independent'.
@lucifargundam @freemo Why is it the politicians that need to stop playing drama? The idea behind a democracy is that the voters decide. They seem to not want anything to change from what the 1.5 big parties have been doing.
We have this problem to a lesser extent, but still. Very little mobility towards third parties despite clear indications that the established parties will not improve things. Truely baffling.
But at least i got an inside opinion that it would be possible without changing laws. Best wishes for next time!
>> Why is it the politicians that need to stop playing drama?
<< Because politicians gatekeep others from joining the scene.
>> The idea behind a democracy is that the voters decide.
<< Yes, but voters do not directly (if at all) decide how the big issues are handled or which individuals are put into office.
>> They seem to not want anything to change from what the 1.5 big parties have been doing.
<< They do, but don't do it well in the fact that they haven't made any changes despite voting in the best interest to improve things.
