[job listing]
> Benefits:
> [...]
> Modern open-plan office
this is in the wrong list
this is now the "izzy looks for another job" thread

> Desired candidate traits: [...] Friendly personality
this one's right out
> Choice of PC or Mac – use tools you are comfortable with
... neither spark joy, but I guess it's a good start
> To apply for this position please upload your resume using SFTP
I mean it requires experience with Office 365 admin but I might apply anyway because that appeals to me
> Salary expectations for this role?
fuck you, I'll give you the exact average of every comparable role in the area
I hate cover letters I hate cover letters I hate cover letters
> Company Benefits:
> - Open plan office means you will be exposed to the experience of the entire team;
at least they're providing an argument for why it's a benefit, I guess. nice of them to warn me.
okay that's today's job application filled out, time to relax until I go out
only took me an hour to write the cover letter this time

progress!
> "oh this looks like a nice opportunity"
> wants a university degree
> help desk
:akko_unamused2:
this one wants me to answer the question "How would your closest friend describe you?"
my closest friend is currently busy, so how would you describe me, fedi?
yeah so that one that wanted a university degree for the helpdesk job?

they want an interview now
okay so the interview is on Microsoft Teams

any gotchas I should know about?
given they're probably going to quiz me on windows stuff, currently getting ready to spin up a virtual domain and stuff
> Junior Systems Engineer (Level 1)
> looking for an experienced L1 Support Engineer
generally speaking if someone is experienced they're probably not doing L1 helpdesk any more
note to self: if asked about my opinions on Microsoft products, "I have strong opinions about proprietary software for personal use ... but in a business setting, it's nice to have someone that's obligated to help with my issues" is a safe response
this does not exclude FOSS software, as I can pay someone and they have to help me, but
"implementations coordinator" is an interesting euphemism for level 2 helpdesk
> 45-55k + super
> same shithole town I'm already living in
... yeah, nah.
me, this morning: "I filled out two job applications tomorrow I'll give myself a break today"
me, at 9PM: "damn guess I better fill out some more job applications"
this may be equivalent to putting a bullet in this application right now but on the off chance it isn't, that would be pleasant
onto the next

the hardest type of cover letter to write, where the job listing has no detail so I can't target anything in there
shout-out to mupdf for letting me switch any PDF (such as this cover letter) to dark mode with just one key
the numbers are coming in now, I can write a cover letter in ... 13 minutes or less!
this feels slightly cynical.
me: I have experience with ticketing systems and their use to resolve problems!
my most active github project:
> Health & Wellbeing: We are focused on creating a workplace that nurtures health, happiness and wellbeing for all including wellness classes, social clubs, dress-up/theme days and more!
is this a "pizza parties instead of pay rises" sort of deal
well, that's another rejection
nice they bothered to tell me, most don't
going through the benefits on this one
> Mobile phone and mobile plan reimbursement ($60 per month)
who the fuck spends SIXTY DOLLARS on their phone service?
I spend like 10 and never use it up
