Telly: "free-to-own 4K television that’s free because of a Secondary Bottom Display that will constantly rotate through Advertising"

@FOSSingularity @lupyuen Agree, I hate this. Heard about it on Louis Rossman's channel. Why would anyone let this abomination into their homes? It's not even proper ownership, it's just a glorified rental, so you can't even hack the hardware. Literally the telescreen from 1984 and people are signing up en masse to put it in their living room. This is what makes me lose faith in humanity.
@CalcProgrammer1 @lupyuen Fucking saaaaame.
I've had talks with people about privacy and incasive tech before, and some people just don't care, at all. it's kinda horrifying.
I wonder if there is a large percentage of people who would be susceptible to;
1. "Receive Free Gun"
2. Instructions include;
a. "Load gone with one bullet."
b. "Put end of barrel on your forehead."
c. "Pull trigger"
OTOH, TV and mobile phones have been indoctrinating us for generations, without much pushback. Other propaganda before that. Schools; "Smart enough to follow instructions, dumb enough to not understand what is going on."
I share your concerns, but...
@CalcProgrammer1
> Literally the telescreen from 1984
... is a description of every Dumb Computer ("Smart TV") with a camera and a net connection. Not to mention the vast majority of handheld computers ("Smart Phones"). Getting advertisers to pay for spying hardware, instead of making the people being spied on pay for it themselves, doesn't make the situation any worse. In some ways (affordability, e-waste) it's an improvement.
@lupyuen Well, I fucking hate this.
