"developers who use #Unity's free tier of development services would owe Unity $0.20 per installation once their game hit thresholds of 200,000 downloads and earn $200,000 in revenue"

@lupyuen the more I think about this, it makes my situation a lot easier. I am not an indie developer, but use Godot occasionally to make small projects/games for educative purposes. Often i get the question, why not Unity... Answering this question has become a lot easier now. as often I had to draw the comparison with Scratch, Python, C/C++ for the parents... they merely heard something, but this makes it easy to switch the narrative to 'long-term use and ambiguity in associated cost'
@lupyuen since a Pro plan has a lower fee and higher threshold, why not see if you get close to the 200.000 downloads and then switch to a pro plan? If no restrictions in place this can be a possible loophole...
... Regardless, leave! Unity is owned by IronSource if not mistaken. These actions were expected.
$0.20 is IMHO fair price. Isn't Unreal in the same neighborhood, with a $200,000 cap?
BUT, that is not the actual issue; It is about control and dependency on a vendor.
People who value the long-term independence need to break free from vendor lock-ins. And instead funnel those $0.20 towards the GoDot community.
@lupyuen confirmation that IronSource is behind recent moves? https://mobilegamer.biz/unity-is-offering-a-runtime-fee-waiver-if-you-switch-to-levelplay-as-it-tries-to-kill-applovin/
@lupyuen Interesting feedback from one of the Indie developers that uses Unity for his games: Lost Relic
Watching another indie developer, which makes this all more confusing:

as it seems 'charity bundles' will be exempted somehow? but you are charged when you install on your steamdeck besides your PC. It is all so vague...
@lupyuen Unity removed the GitHub repository that tracked their ToS: https://www.gamerbraves.com/unity-silently-deletes-github-repo-that-tracks-terms-of-service-changes-and-u
