Great to see confirmation that Mastodon posts get a "score" - counting both likes and boosts - which populates the Trends feature which more and more people are using as an algorithmic feed.
See what can be figured out just from observation as a user?
Yes, there are algorithms on Mastodon. Unless you have boosts off or none of the people you follow browses Trends, those algorithmically inflated posts get into your feed.
@OutOnTheMoors there's a trends feature? Okay I'm starting to suspect I'm missing out on stuff because I'm using a 7 year old android phone. 😂😂
@talia_christine @OutOnTheMoors it doesn't appear on tusky - I only see it if I go to the web version (other android apps might have it though)

Tusky has a 'trending hashtags' in the menu.
Megalodon has a list that's very similar if you click on the search icon 🔎 and view the predefined hashtag list there.
I'm using a newer android phone, don't know if that makes a difference 🤷
@iamgaarden @rateexportpilot @talia_christine @OutOnTheMoors sorry, but I'm using Tusky and really can't find it. Could you be more precise?
@iamgaarden @rateexportpilot @talia_christine @OutOnTheMoors wow, hidden menus for the win :D thanks a lot!
@mapto @rateexportpilot @talia_christine @OutOnTheMoors Yes. On the left is a hidden menu, so swipe from left side to right to activate it. There should be a Trending Hashtags there, see photo.
