@BobMastodon It looks like they are on the @oliphant Unified Minimum Block list which we've started to use. That would suggest there's been some serious issues with the instance historically. Let me do some digging to see if I can find out any more on why the instance is recommended to be blocked. It may well be a historic issue that has shifted, or it might be that the instance fails to moderate / administer properly in which case I'd personally suggest your friends shift instances to an instance that does moderate. It's worth saying they're going to be blocked by a fairly large number of instances as this block list is generally trusted as a absolute bare minimum block list and they may want to consider moving anyway for that reason.

I'll take a look probably tomorrow being honest and get back to you.

WOW you guys switched to this **incredibly** abusive list that is based, partly, on the mastodon.art list which is notoriously abusive and does absolutely no due diligence.

Very disappointed in Universeodon at making such an abusive and negligent decision. One of the things that got them respected int he community is they used to be one of the few servers who actually did due diligence on their moderation.

I will be announcing this to the UFoI next meeting.

Well qoto.org, for example, is defederated from my instance because they won't block racists.

Is that information out of date? If not, don't blame the block list.

There was an incident where a Qoto user, a pro-palestinian artist/activist, posted a picture of a menorah made of bullets in his own thread about the Israeli-Palestinian situation, which was unnecessarily hurtful towards uninvolved Jewish people. I tried talking to the user about it, at first, hoping they just weren't thinking about this, but after the user blocked me, I went to Freemo about it.

I don't remember how it played out, but I remember he resolved it in a way that satisfied me, and the post is no longer there.

I don't think Freemo is perfect, I don't like all of his views, and I'm not going to say that no one should block Qoto: that's a per-server decision that admins have to make for their users and the community they want to keep.

I will say though, I don't think it's accurate to say he doesn't moderate racism, and if I did, we'd block his server.
