@atomicpoet I think the stereotypical blue checkmarks (as opposed to the non-stereotypical ones) will each end up in their own instances, but with less clout compared to Twitter.
@mathlover The only instances they'll join are ones that deem them as more "credible" people than others because some cultural or business institution employs them.
In fact, I've heard blue checks say as much. They don't like the Fediverse because it's largely run by volunteer sysadmins who won't protect them.
@atomicpoet Interesting. Why am I not surprised that this is the case?
@mathlover It's generally how Enterprise software works. The likes of IBM or Carnegie Mellon or the New York Times doesn't trust anything unless they can pay a $100,000 license for it. In their minds, if they're no money exchanging hands, the service will disappear in a year.
This is actually something Blue Sky brings up when they throw FUD at the Fediverse: Don't trust Mastodon, instances can disappear—but we have scale!
@atomicpoet Are you referring to the Twitter project called Blue Sky? I didn't know they had that much PR pieces around, let alone a go-to bit of FUD.
@atomicpoet Holy shit! Let me read this now.
@atomicpoet I must've skimmed past this when I read the article when it first came out. Holy crap.
