I'm so confused. Last week, data said vinyl only grew 1% compared to last year. Now reports are saying 27.4%?

Also, I'm getting tired of the whole "Can a vinyl resurgence be true?" question from lazy journalists.

@atomicpoet Recently I read an article that suggested that people listening to old music was a sign of cultural decline. It was ... poorly-argued, to put it mildly, focusing only on record company sales and ignoring anything in indie music.

@mathlover People are also listening to more music than ever before, albeit uncritically and mostly as background noise.

But there's many explanations for the "new music is dying" phenomenon.

1. Cultural cycles have been permanently upset
2. Video games have taken the place of music in youth culture
3. It takes longer for something new to reach the masses
4. As society becomes more and more niche, whatever's novel gets kicked out of the mainstream
5. Algorithms lock people in content bubbles
