@mur2501 @karin_artss there are what you might call "thin" applications, especially those that you download to your phone, which don't really do much unless they speak to a server, such as Facebook's servers, because that's where the data is. one would typically call a whole such application a "front-end" for the service. there are multiple levels here, bit like an onion... can get confusing.
@karin_artss @mur2501 this breed of Internet-reliant apps is relatively new and weren't very prominent prior to the invention of the smartphone, which is how we ended up with these somewhat overlapping naming schemes.

@thor @karin_artss
Smartphones have changed the whole technology scenario, especially cause they reach a very wide audience

@karin_artss @thor
I would suggest you dig in what's going on in the computer at the circuit level and some Assembly from above to understand the true power and difficulty of this beast of a machine.

@mur2501 @thor Don't worry about it, I'm totally cool with it and in fact a lot of Finns confuse their own names. Apparently everybody thinks that "Liinu" is a male name while it's female. "Liinus" on the other hand, is the male equivalent. As for "Karin" and "Kari", the first one is feminine and the latter one is masculine :'D

@mur2501 @karin_artss mine is rather dull. it just means i'm somebody's son...

@thor @karin_artss
In India many of the surnames refers to what work the family does or used to do.
My grandfather used to sell perfumes so that's there.
Meanwhile the surnames of one of my friend literally means 'chain', the family he comes from back in time used to work with metals making chain armours and other stuffs.

@mur2501 @thor naming after jobs is also more common in 🇩🇪, for example some of the most common names are Müller (miller) and Schmidt/Schmied (smith). But my own family name does not fit into the scheme, at least as far as I know.
