The movie is called 'Lagaan' (literally means tax).
The story is set in British India where the people of a village are crushed by the British forced taxes so they try to protest and the british taunt them by challenging them in a British game unknown to the villagers called Cricket and set that if the villagers defeat the British in cricket all the taxes would be lifted. Now the villagers have to learn this alien sport without anyone's help in just few days.....
