re: cws, uspol, metaphor involving tobacco
@Crash
I understand that but I also know that for the ones who CW will keep the trends, may also some other who don't follow will get this and start using CW, but many wouldn't so filtering words and phrases is a good thing your friends can do especially when they have health or mental issus with it. Fediverse is a place filled with the one who listens as well as the one who don't.
re: cws, uspol, metaphor involving tobacco
Please understand, I am speaking as someone who in the past few months was triggered, legitimately, to the point where I could no longer function, by un-CWed content.
I had filters (plural) in place, and my feed is already heavily curated, but some individuals managed to bypass those (in one case, by using emoji letters to spell out their message) to make it so I had to log off and stop using Mastodon until I recovered.
The polite thing is to use a CW.
Putting the pressure on those who need the CWs to act so that the impolite can feel better about being impolite is not a conversation that I, personally, wish to continue to discuss.

@Crash
I very much understand what you are asking and would encourage anyone n everyone to CW.
I would just saying this cause I know and you know there would always be people not doing it so also take the precautions from your side ![]()
re: cws, uspol
@icedquinn @Crash
That also I know,
Filtering is a hard thing
As well as making people CW
re: cws, uspol, metaphor involving tobacco
@mur2501 They can, but the polite thing to do is to apply a CW.
To apply a metaphor:
You can smoke outside, and and people who don't like that can move away from you, but the polite thing is to not light up a cancer stick next to someone wheeling around a portable oxygen tank.
