Goa (The land of cows) is pretty popular among Russian tourists, so much that vodka is the most sold drink there :ablobblewobble:

@mur2501 @Nishensa @Hyolobrika @thor I believe Goa is a Portuguese name (think to Lisboa) ? At least it was Portuguese colony. This not to big country was one of the greatest Empire and have big influence. They have also the greatness to leave their colonies (but Macau in China, at least with great relationship compared to Hong Kong) before other European Empires. Japanese arigato (to say thank you), come from Portuguese obrigado (thank you, literally, obligated). Vindaloo (portughese:vindalho (french: “vin d’ail”, meaning “wine of ail”), sauce (I really like this indian sauce) or congee come from portuguese. In japanese the genoise (from french génoise, literally from Gênes, aka Genova (the former republic-city, and city-Empire and now city in Italy) is called kasutera (カステラ) from portuguese castela (castel), because when a portuguese give this cake to a japanese official (shogun or emperor, didn’t remember), this one that liked it, asked how it is called, pointing the plate, where a castel was drawn, and so the portuguese answered “castela” 😁 . That’s called egg cake 蛋糕 in chinese), it is really popular in those 2 countries. pastel de nata (a little portuguese style Custard tart) too.

Don't know about Goa surely
However Bombay do is a name given by the portuguese.
Bombay (or now Mumbai) was a Portuguese territory for a long time until in 1661 when it was offered as a dowry to Charles II of England for marrying Catherine of Braganza from Portugal. Later Bombay became the main port for transportation of cotton from India to Britain (when Brits got bored with spices and switched to cotton) which eventually sparked the industrial revolution in England hence paving the way for Britain becoming the strongest and richest naval power in Europe beating out the trade of Portugal, France and Netherlands.
