it really fucking irks me that i have seen multiple tech people in my feed celebrating the UAE for its Mars mission. this country is an oppressive dictatorship built upon oil and the exploitation of workers from southern asia. i had to live in that hellhole for 16 years before running away due to being LGBT. this country does not hold ANY sort of elections for it's officials. legally LGBT people in the UAE can be executed for this. police and court systems are known to be very racially biased towards emiratis. also something that seems to be forgotten often is the fact that the majority of the laborers working in the UAE live in camps in terrible condition where they are forced to stay (the majority confiscate passports), get taken to work on a bus and then back to the camp. i have seen this shit go down with my own eyes, it's horrifying the conditions that some people in that regime live under. the constant approval of the UAE for their technological advances and futurism need to stop, you cannot be a good person and praise that country
