European Parliament committee moves ahead with overwhelming majority to enter next stage of #ChatControl

Here's my full tally of the votes based on the VOD

@chartgerink
😬 ☹️
How does this fit with the following, or was this about a different meeting/vote?

@msteenhagen i think this relates to the amendments that are adopted specifically, which I have not read one-to-one, so I may very well be missing something.

See eg "Parliament wants to exclude end-to-end encrypted material from detection"

I hope it's not as bad as I fear…

@msteenhagen i sort of find it difficult to harmonize excluding e2e encryption with "If mitigation measures not enough, court-validated detection orders to be used to track down illegal material"

But yea - it seems like EDRI is happy because it wasn't as bad as it once was. This entire bill has been so tarnished for me with the lobbying and corruption around it that I find it hard to get to the core of it without being angry, I notice

@chartgerink @msteenhagen I think the worst part of the process is that the EC is practically blackmailing everyone else to surrender rights.

@olives @msteenhagen we're going to see - i'm definitely not comfortable either, even if e2e seems semi-safe
