I'm contemplating getting someone introductory books about 3D printing and 3D modeling in Blender. The recipient has a lot of experience with art and some with coding. Suggestions?

@peterdrake oh boy, this is almost 10 years old already... not much of an introduction to the topic, but the only book about it I've read. It might still be of some interest.

@peterdrake why blender? For 3d printing there are more user and n00b friendly free CAD programs out there

@BridgetClinch I'm trying to span both 3D printing and 3D modeling for, e.g., making video games. I was under the impression Blender was the free weapon of choice for the latter, but I don't know too much about it.

@peterdrake I believe blender is awesome at modelling and rendering for media, and they did add a CAD functionality recently, but yeah Fusion 360 or onshape seem much more focussed towards making manufacturable items

@peterdrake

If they enjoy coding, then #OpenSCAD might be worth a look for the 3D CAD part.

@peterdrake The title sounds corny, but Blender3D: Noob to Pro is free and excellent at teaching the basics of 3D geometry and Blender.

The hardest part with Blender tends to be getting used to the UI, and this helped me learn it quickly when I first started.
