Study shows that touch screen buttons are less safe than physical buttons (no surprise to anyone in #UXDesign)

"The 2005 #Volvo far outperformed the modern, infotainment screen equipped cars, with a driver completing all four tasks in just ten seconds and 1,000 feet traveled."

@scottjenson Every new input device seems worse than the last. Physical buttons (including keyboards) > mouse > gamepad > touchscreen > voice > gestures.

@peterdrake Well much of this can be laid at the foot of 'cost reduction'.

However I'm heartened by projects like both Sony and Microsoft releasing accessible game controllers

@peterdrake @scottjenson as a disabled driver I prefer voice over buttons and literaly ANYTHING over touch screens

@Lyonesseuk @scottjenson Interesting.

Is there a voice control system accurate and responsive enough to operate a vehicle? I'm used to voice systems that give you, like, 80% accuracy after a one-second delay, which wouldn't work.

I recognize that the rules are different for controlling the motion of the vehicle versus controlling the radio, map navigation, etc.

I'd be interested to hear about your experience!
