Some Elements Arrived on Earth by Surfing Supernova Shock Waves

Many elements were made inside stars as they fused elements in their cores. Other elements were formed in the blink of an eye when massive stars died as supernovae or through collisions between neutron stars. Researchers have been puzzled by how elements formed in different places and distances from the Solar System all reached the Earth roughly simultaneously. The answer is that heavy elements produced in neutron star collision "surfed" on blast waves generated by other supernovae explosions.
