Things I wish I could do within the Unity editor:

Find all references to a particular GameObject in the Hierarchy.

Search the Hierarchy for all GameObjects with a particular script attached.

Are these things possible? If so, how? If not, why not?

@peterdrake The second one is definitely doable : type the name of the script (exactly) in the search bar of the hierarchy and you will get what you want. There are a bunch of nifty search functions in the editor : docs.unity3d.com/Manual/search

@peterdrake For that second one, IIRC you can do a search for like "t:MyScript" and it'll show only things that have a MyScript attached. It's been a few years since I used Unity, so it's possible this only worked for built-in types (like Transform) but I *think* this should do the trick.

For the first one, you probably need some kind of editor extension. I can imagine some brute-force approaches to building one, but I doubt they'd scale well to large scenes. :(
